So, for those of you who don't know, I ran my first half marathon this spring. Long story short, it was all spurred by a comment my husband made a year or so ago. I said I thought next year (2011) would be the year I would run the 1/2 marathon, which was on my bucket list. He said there's no way you can do that and rambled on about training, time commitment, etc... That was all the motivation I needed to prove him wrong. Through the recommendation of a co-worker, I joined a wonderful running group that was organized by the beautiful mother in these pictures. Her training program whipped my rear-end into gear and helped me successfully complete, and surpass my goal. She also happens to be an extremely knowledgable nutritionist. Let me know if any of you readers need a hook up for either = 0 Thanks B! It was a pleasure to photograph you and your family = )

Not me, but some of these kiddos. I've been photographing these 5 cousins for years, watching them grow and change. Come the end of the year, 3 of them are off to experience new places and adventures. Maybe they can fly their family photographer down for a session =) You know I love you guys!

of a posting spree! Yes, after yet another hiatus from my blog I'm going to attempt to get back in action and I'm starting with this very adorable family. I know how difficult it is to get family photos, that's why it's been 2 years since we have had one and so I have a lot of empathy for my clients. Getting everyone looking good and to the session is only half the battle. Then, it's keeping kids happy, having food/snacks, wipes for any incidents, bribes (yes, this is 100% acceptable) great lighting, bla, bla, bla... By the end there is usually one, if not two, exhausted parents. Anyways, the end result is always worth it...

Yes, you would think with my blog absence that perhaps that's where I've been... buried under a rock. In reality, I find that my kids and their activities are very time consuming leaving a void in my blogging world = ) However, I'm still enjoying photographing wonderful families such as this one. As you can see, there was a Birthday boy in the house! I was hoping to get some in a field but the wind had other plans for us.

I photographed the most precious newborn this weekend. Being mother's day and such, baby G reminded me of those "baby things" I hope I never forget, because so often they slip away from your memory. I want to remember how their little toes curl when you touch the bottom of their feet, how they have a soft fuzz on their cheek and sometimes else where on their body. I want to remember how their lips pucker when they sleep. I want to remember how time stood still as I would sit and stare and watch this amazing being, their chest filling and exhaling with every breath.

As you can see from this post and the one below, the babes are back. Okay, men, not the babes you might expect but the little newborns who eventually grow into something we more commonly know as babies. Miss A made her first appearance as a sleepy newborn. Since then, she has proven to be quite the photogenic subject and this session was no exception =) Her mother warned me of her new trick, scrunching up her nose. So, while we did get some great expressions it wouldn't be right not to include one of the face the best represents her at this stage in her life.

This sweet little baby is now a little rock star in training with his natural bleach blonde hair, gorgeous blue eyes, and rock star jeans and shirt to complete the look. I can't believe how much he has grown and changed. That blonde hair used to have just a tint of red but it is no where to be seen now. Baby L, you rock!

I had the most AMAZING time photographing the one week old, Baby {T}. Mom has an incredible sense of style and they have created beautiful nooks and crannies throughout their home, as you can see from the images below. These spaces just called me to them and baby {T} was so cooperative. I am beyond thrilled with some of these images! Miss A did share the spotlight but only briefly b/c the main focus was on her. As you can see from her newborn session she is growing. She is so easy on the eyes with her sparkly blues and adorable little grin. She's in training to be just as photogenic as her brother = )

Okay, I know, Thanksgiving is past but still, you have to admit it's a cute title and very fitting for this bunch who happen to be good friends of mine and the Mister. Whether it guys time, ladies time, or family time, it's always sure to be a blast. I have to give mom and dad some credit as they sure do make beautiful kids. Little Miss is no exception and has added a nice dynamic to the family. Cute as a button and perfectly content, I can't wait to watch her grow.

Catching up with a college friend

Before Thanksgiving, I had the opportunity to photograph a good friend from college along with his girlfriend, her son and his nieces. Things are definitely different then they were in college, which is a good thing. It means we have grown up, at least for the most part = )

This family is very busy with a 7 year old, who will be 8 in just a few days, and twin 7 month olds. Dad was home from Iraq for just several weeks and will return to serve another 6-7 months. So, it was perfect timing to get some family pictures. Also on their plate is some much needed family time with a trip to Kansas City. Sounds like the perfect plan to me. Hmmm, maybe this is food for thought = )

I saw this on Facebook and thought is worthy of repeating as well as appropriate...

Last year I met this wonderful family and photographed their boys. This year they returned to get a much needed family portrait. The day was beautiful, the Husker's were winning, the glorious fall colors were in full force and all was well in the land of Nebraska! I absolutely LOVE this time of year. Some remember me from the year before, some are new and are very leery of me and some have graduated and moved on to different schools. I love that for a few hours, I get to forget stress, deadlines and many of the responsibilities associated with my adult life as I relish life through the eyes of children. I always leave with a smile on my face = )

I had the pleasure of second shooting a wedding with my dear friend and fellow photographer Holly. I have to say that I LOVE 2nd shooting a wedding where the pressure isn't entirely on one person. Plus, it's great to collaborate ideas, etc... I wasn't sure what to expect having no background with the couple. However, their love and commitment to each other was very apparent upon meeting them where I was warmly welcomed. Their wedding was a very small, intimate affair filled with special details. I had so much fun and am thankful for the invite to 2nd shoot = ) I hope we can do it again!

This sweet speciman of baby belongs to my good friend, who you might remember as the stunningly beautiful pregnant mama. I loved spending a portion of the afternoon with them, holding and bouncing a beautiful baby boy to sleep, visiting and of course photographing! Newborn photographers make it look so easy - but they are long, hard (but super fun!) work! I think this guy had the most precious lips ever!

The beautiful mother of this family is my dental hygienist. People, if you are looking for a good hygienist look no further. She is fantastic. Most people choose a dentist by referrals from others and by which offices are covered under their dental insurance. And, while the dentist is important isn't it really the hygienist that we spend most of our time with? I can sit down in the chair and and pick up where ever we left off at 6 months ago. And, S can probably give you a few good stories about me. Like the time I cried in her chair while watching Oprah. Or, the time I nearly fainted when getting a shot.

S, it was so good to meet this family of yours I hear about every 6 months!

Fall is definitely here which means Husker season, busy season for me but also fall weather with crisp blues skies and cooler temps. Unfortunately, the morning of the J.S. family shoot was overcast as it had rained cats and dogs during the night. However, we made the best of it! Big Sis J was entertaining as always and Lil' Sis J was still not to sure. And, the best part is I got to talk shop. Well, not really shop but mom and I talked running as my goal for next spring is the half-marathon and dad I talked cameras = )

My 2nd senior of the season and I swear I can't get any luckier. A perfect morning paired with a young, good-looking gentleman, who also happens to be very photogenic and to top it off has a love of old cars. I'll be honest, I'm not a car person and have never photographed people and cars so I was a bit anxious. Once the cars pulled up there was a permanent smile on Tyler's face. I'll admit, I think I had just as much fun photographing the cars and the creativity was flowing from my pores = )

This is the second time I have been honored to capture this families little miracle. Today, I help them welcome sweet princess A to the family. It was 2 years ago when I met the {M} family and started photographing Mr. H. He is now 2 years old and a very proud big brother. We were reminiscing how Mr. H was wide awake for his newborn session, perfectly content and not a peep from him, but there was definitely no sleeping. However, Princess A found that deep sleep that I love and she was out.

I love my clients and am so grateful they allow me to share in their lives. Walking into the {M} home I was greeted by my images displayed on the wall. It is so humbling and heart warming for me. Each human, a newborn, child or adult is extraordinary and unique in some way and it is me who walks away a better person.

I apologize for my blog absence. Every now and then I get buried with wonderful sessions, my dear family time, and those little things called projects. There are more sessions to share and so much to do. Wish me luck!

I have had the pleasure of photographing this family for 3-4 years and, just for the record, there are not many boys who enjoy having their picture taken...not gonna lie = ) Little Mr. {D} would fit into this category. Well, mom and dad thought it might be beneficial if I bring my son, who is bestest buds with Mr. D. I was a little weary, a 3 1/2 year old is certainly not my ideal assistant but what did we have to lose. Boys will be boys and there was a minor incident with sticks but I would say all in all, it was successful.

a trip down memory lane

Meet my cousin, "M", and her family. They came down from Gretna for some pictures and my mind took a little jog down memory lane. "M" has an older sister and a younger sister. Age wise, I fall between the eldest and "M". I remember spending the night at their farm. They had the coolest tree house and there were many a night we spent in it, tucked away under the sleeping bags and blankets. There were games of hide and go sleep in the dark with nothing but the stars to light our way. Or how about the truck rides through the fields with us girls bumping wildly up and down, giggling in the back. My cousins gave me a glimpse of what it would be like to have a sister. The hair pulling, hitting, screaming, etc... but by gosh, they had each others back if anyone else tried to mess with the other. I see this special bond now in my girls.

And then there is my aunt, the person whom I drew much inspiration from as a photographer. Besides my intro to photography class in high school, where we learned to make a pin-hole camera and the basics of dark room, she is the one I looked to. She photographed all my cousins senior pictures but even more awe inspiring were her still life images in black and white. She could make the most simple things look intriguing and interesting. The one I remember most fondly is of their mailbox covered in snow. She helped me by my first camera at Rockbrook, it was in the day of film and was a Yashica.

The talent doesn't end there in that family. My older cousin is a scrapbooking genius and is the queen of craftiness. She has her own etsy store, My Green Horned Unicorn and check out her blog to see some of her amazing work.

Now for the pictures. I love the this image of "K", but don't let her innocence deceive you. We have termed the word "spit-fire" for our middle daughter and I think all would agree Miss K has some in her, too.

Mr. C, was as easy as 1-2-3! I had a little fun playing with the processing techniques = )

one lovely spring day

Finally, the spring weather looks like it's here to stay! Woo hoo! A magnolia tree in bloom, green grass, what more could a gal ask for? Well, maybe 3 gorgeous kids to go with it! K is the oldest of the bunch and a wonderful big brother. He can make the littlest one giggle with delight and always has a protective arm around her so she doesn't fall. Oh, to top it off, he is soooo easy to photograph! T is in the middle. She just turned 3 and as I understand, received many Barbies for her bday, one actually joined us for the outing. She serenaded us with Jesus Loves Me for the first part of the shoot. So darling. I'm pretty sure she was singing when I snapped the one of them on the bench = ) N is the youngest, the baby, with a HUGE smile and two itty-bitty, tiny teeth on the bottom. A go-with-the-flow attitude but she sure did shine when the spot light was on her.

T - it was so great to catch up and see your kids!! Time for the photos...

Dear Mr. Weather

We are ready for Spring, and not just glimpses of it once in a while, I'm talking consistancy. No more snow and chilly temps. You see, this has caused one of my clients to reschedule twice and she is very anxious, as am I. She is not the only one, there are others. I have to admit I'm not a Valentine's fan. I don't like flowers, least of all roses paired with a 50% mark up, I don't really do jewelry and I'm not a chocolate lover. My husband got off easy in this category and I do tend to remind him of this fact. Instead, we will probably be enjoying chinese food by candle light with our 3 rug rats = ) This has become our tradition as the kids think the candles are way cool and I'm relieved of cooking and cleaning duty! This year Valentine's day and the Chinese new year are on the same day so our little tradtion makes perfect sense = )

My camera has finally come out of hybernation! This was my first official session of 2010 and I couldn't have asked for better kiddos!

What more could I ask for? Not a thing. Mr. C was a ham from the get go! He lit up with personality in front of the lens and at times, had us all laughing! Be a judge for yourself and check out the image below. Can you see that little sparkle in his eyes paired with his little devilish grin = ) Oh my!

Big sis Ms. K had just as much personality in her. Bashful, serious, silly, etc.... you name it and I'm pretty sure we saw it (and captured it). I puffy heart her adorable dimple. I used to have a dimple, now it looks more like a wrinkle! Oh to have that beautiful dimple!!

And, to finish the session, look what they gave me. 100% all natural. I was actually trying to pose them and they did this on their own.

Welcome 2010 & New Year's Special

I have been M.I.A. online for quite a bit! I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday season! I know I did! It went by SO fast! It's been another fantastic year for Jill Riese Photography and I owe it to all of you, my clients, blog readers, supporters, friends and family. Without all of you, I wouldn't be here today. I truly love creating memories! What was once just a tiny business has exploded. Thank you!! I've spent some time reflecing on 2009 and have some great ideas for 2010 so stay tuned. A belated internet toast to all; may all your needs be met and dreams come true!

Also, I know there were a few families I just couldn't get booked in 2009. So, I'm having a very limited special, the New Year's special. Book a session with a friend or family member and split the session fee between the 2 of you. To qualify, the session must be booked AND photographed before March 31st. (Newborn sessions are not included due to the special nature of those sessions). There are 3 options available.

1. The lifestyle session - this is natural light photography in your home. Kids playing in their bedrooms, reading books, or taking baths. Or, families playing games, cuddling on the couch or having a ticklefest. It's tailored to your ideas!

2. Portable studio session - I come to your home with my portable studio for the session. See example below.

3. Outdoor sessions - For those willing to bear the cold (or wetness once it actually warms up come Feb or March). Get out the stocking hats, rainboots, umbrellas and let's go have some fun.

After I was able to snap a few of them together, they decided to try and pull the blanket over their heads. I think that was their way of saying "all done"! Okay, I'll take the hint = )

You didn't think I'd just post words did you? Meet the "J" family. Our goal was to capture the family but I had to take some individuals and one of my faves is at the end = ) It was on the windy side and the sun couldn't decide whether it wanted to shine or not. At the end of the session, it was very apparent the sun did NOT want to shine but we made the most of our time!

Okay, one of my faves... As I was working with the boys I turned and saw this. I didn't get a whole lot of time to change settings and wasn't sure if I got the shot until I got home. I don't know about you, but I'm dying to know what he's whispering =)

but you can't hide!! I think that statement holds 100% true for this boy. I give this little guy a lot of credit. Try as he might to avoid me and my camera, I am very good at catching kids with their guard down!

We started by playing with one of his toys. It was a sweeper with push buttons, lights and sang a fun sweeping song. Being the excellent sharer he is, we took turns. We found other great uses for it, too! Like brushing my hair, mom's hair and even my camera. Before you know it, he had had forgot that we were taking pictures (well at least temporarily). It did make a little appearance in one of the images below. I'll have to do a little photo fixin' on that one = )

Mr H you are one handsome 18 month old in your very dapper vest and big boy haircut!

Ms. R is back...with her bro

You may remember Ms. R from her senior session. She has returned but this time with her younger brother for a sibling session. Their relationship was like looking at me and my bro in a time capsule. Same age difference, same fun loving attitudes, same "poke fun at my sibling", and aftewards they went to get a bite to eat, which is exactly what me and my bro would have done. It made me look at the picture of me and my bro from my senior HS days. I still like that picture, us in our chambray shirts = ) R and N, I hope some day you can look back at these pictures and smile!

On another note, I think my time of outdoor sessions is coming close to an end. I'm so glad we ventured outside for some images!!

plus 2 families who are neighbors and friends equals a VERY fun time. This tree was seriously awesome!! Branches coming out from all over, winding here and there and absolutely perfect for climbing. It was a piece of work. I wish it was in my backyard!

I had so much fun. I would be working with one of the kids and then turn to see something cute the others were doing and start photographing them and turn back.... etc... You get the idea.

As many of you know, I always jump at the opportunity to add a personal touch to the session. So, after the park, we headed to gma and gpa's house. You see, gpa made one of those dome jungle gyms (also known as dome climber or jungle gym monkey bars). It was one of the largest I have ever seen. He made it while battling cancer, so as you can imagine it was built with lots of love. (I'm thinking the blood, sweat, and tears kind of love). He is cancer free now. I can't take credit for this idea as it was mom's, but what a wonderful idea to capture the kids playing on it. This is where memories are made.

I was so excited to photograph these sisters again! We had a delightful time last year and I was sure this year would be no disappointment. When they hopped out of the car I couldn't believe my eyes. Really? One year can make this much difference? Wow! The one thing that didn't change is they are still CRAZY CUTE!

When we initially booked the session we were concerned what November weather might bring so we chose a location that would offer some wind break if need be. Nov 1st proved to be a beautiful day and I should have been more concerned about October! Finally, a glorious fall day in the company of some wonderful little girls.

Here are some more of Megan. To give her a good variety we went for a total different feel with the formal images. I was in photographer heaven b/c she was game for any of my ideas. Even more awesome was the red accents we found to compliment her dress! Big kudos to my niece as it was NOT a warm day. We took a couple of breaks in the van to warm up and change outfits.

I would like to introduce all of you to this wonderful senior, Megan, who also happens to be my niece= ) She lives in MO and we both have extremely busy schedules so this was the first opportunity for us to hook up. I know she has been approached by MANY photographers in her area (and who can blame them she is gorgeous inside and out) so I'm thrilled she let me have the honors! This is part 1 - the casual session. I wanted to push the limits and get funky. For those wondering about her eyes, they are naturally that blue. If you met her parents you would see where she gets them from.

and the chilly temperatures, I had the opportunity to photograph these handsome dudes. We had a fun time. The oldest is going to be Michael Jackson for Halloween. How cool is that! {T} was a MJ fan BEFORE he died so that makes him a true fan in my book = ) He whipped out some smooth moves and *bad* style for me!! His younger brother, {M} wins the award for Mr. Personality. He went through 20 different faces in 10 seconds flat. Now that might just be a record.

Hey, wait! That's us! I'm stepping out ofmy comfort zone from behind the lens (which is extremely painful for me) and showing my face along with my dearly loved family!

A HUGE thanks to Jen Hoevet , a photographer in the LaVista area who took the image below. Jen is oozing with creativity and her color processing is in the "to die for" category. We met just a few short weeks ago and with the exchange of some lengthy emails, quickly became friends. I'm delighted to have another photo buddy to talk shop, share ideas, take pics with and maybe even attend a seminar or two. Anyway, I think she got the short end of the deal as my little guy does NOT like the camera and I think I may be the least photogenic person I know!

As a photographer, I have so few images of me in them so when I saw this one it istantly warmed by heart. Now, how big should I order?!

So, anyone who knows me realizes I have an "anything goes" attitude. I'm up for usually anything. I have a love for nature settings, urban settings, and everything in between. I LOVE that this family chose their church. The mom and I have lunch ocassionally and I can tell you first hand what a strong faith she has. So, it seemed so fitting to the church be the location for the shoot. Good idea, mom! What I didn't know is it would have this AWESOME dumpster. I think they thought I might be half crazed when I suggested we take some pics in front of it!

Meet little brother {G} and big brother {D}. {G} was a busy guy, off exploring and investigating the trees and plants, looking at the fish and even kissing the frog statue! Big bro {D} was easy as pie to photograph. So laid back and natural. What is it about boys and trees? Not only did we get the picture below, we also got some of them sitting in the tree = )

I am so honored to photograph Ms. R's senior portraits. Ms. R is a very special young lady. I was first introduced to her when she began working at my childrens' school. She is respected and loved among all the kids and her energy and passion are such a positive influence. She is one of the few babysitter's we trust to watch our kids. Maybe I should rephrase that and say she is one of the few people who can keep our 3 hoodlums in line = ) During the session we talked about future opportunities and Ms. R mentioned the idea of working with kids in need. Those who may have suffered abuse and neglect or other negative situations. I can totally see her doing something like this and have no doubt she would make an impact on each child's life.

R is also a soccer player and I enjoyed talking soccer with her. I played during high school and now help coach one of my daughter's teams. I think the fam will have to try and make a game this spring to watch Ms. R in action= )

We had so much fun on the shoot! R picked out some fabulous locations. Initially, she had admitted she wasn't comfortable in front of the camera. I would have never guessed! She tried to credit watching Top Model but I think she really is natural = ) I loved using art to create more art. Something special and unique. We really are our own work of art with the ability to recreate and define ourselves.

I should also mention that R has been photographed by the same photographer since she was young. Her dad pulled out wallet images and it was like a timeline since age 5 or something. Ummm, no pressure! Just one more reason I feel honored = )

Gorgeous x 2!!! As you can guess, these ladies are twins. I'm always in awe of the bond twins seem to have and these two are no exception. I'm sure whatever the future holds, it will include each other.

I LOVE this time of year. The weather is beautiful and I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to photograph some truly awesome seniors! I was a bit concerned about the wind but they managed to use it to their advantage and we got some rockin' shots! E & R are incredibly sweet and sincere. I had so much fun!

I came across this in my web browsings and wrote it down some time ago. I don't remember if it was a quote, and if it was, who it came from. I just like it and thought it was fitting. It's just what kids do = )

This was my second session with the "J" family. The littlest J has changed to much since our last session. There are gorgeous curls where the baby fuzz used to be. She is mobile, crawling, pulling up and soon to be walking. Did I mention flexible? I think she might be the most flexible child I've met. She also has such a laid-back and easy-going personality.

Here they are as newborns. Now they are one! Delightful in every way! Their personalities are very different, but compliment each other so well. Watching them grow has been so much fun and I hope to capture more to come! I envision very busy times ahead = )

Despite the weather, which was rainy and overcast and light that was quickly dwindling, we were able to time the session to capture some with Abuelo (grandfather in Spanish), or Abluelito (a more affectionate term of grandfather. Maybe the English equivalent of grandpa). Abuelito was visiting all the way from Mexico = )

C & A : One Beautiful Wedding

A perfect day, a stunning couple, and a wonderful location makes for an absolutely beautiful wedding!! I had not met A, only spoke on the phone and by email, but I knew when she walked in the girl had style. Everything from her jewelry to the table decorations. Oh, I can't forget the great desert/candy table. It was simple, elegant and a bit modern all mushed together!

The ceremony and reception was at Wilderness Ridge. Known for great golf and it's rustic lodge as well as fabulous food. In fact, they had just came out with some new menu items = ) Florals and decorations were provided by Stem Gallery. I also had the pleasure of meeting Craig Estudillo, who was the DJ but might be better known as the voice of the Lincoln Stars hockey. There were also some former Lincoln Stars Hockey players in attendance.

So, something you don't see a whole lot of on my blog but will hopefully be seeing more of is High School Seniors. Between the scattered thunderstorms, we were able to find some dry time to squeeze in both the indoor and outdoor session! Emily was so easy to work with, willing to try new and different things and just so easy to photography. Kudos to her aunt for being my assistant (ie holding all my stuff!!) What a great session to kick off my high school seniors!!

These beautiful kiddos are from Oregon. They were back home visiting family and it just so happened we were able to hook up for a session. I'm so glad it worked out b/c it was a lot of fun.

Little Miss M is 2 1/2 and just a delight. Her beautiful curls, a little spunk of personality, and a giant smile can make your heart full = ) Her little brother, Mr G, is 4 months old and such a happy camper. He has sparkling blue eyes and cheeks that you just want to squeeze.

It's never too early...

"What time is too early?", the mom asked. "Can we do 8:00 am?"

I responded with "Yes we can!" See, I am a morning person and so are my kids, generally speaking. Our middle child is like an alarm clock rising promptly between 6:00 - 6:30. Kids, just like adults, have internal time clocks and you just got to go with it!

Meet this prince and princess. Miss E is 6 months old and as sweet as sweet can be!! Her older brother Mr. B is 18 months old and a little charmer himself. He was not as sure about my camera but it was only a matter of time before I won him over = )

One of the many reasons sessions last an hour or more is b/c kids need time to warm up to people. We tell them not to talk to strangers. We have to allow them time to warm up to the crazy lady with the big camera = ) So, to all the parents who have stressed over their child's behavior, he or she is not the first to run from my camera, break out in tears, etc...

Enough of my ramblings, here are the beautiful kiddos = )

Meet beautiful baby "B". She was born with the most beautiful head of hair. See, my kiddos were all baldies. I think "B" probably has more hair than my eldest daughter did at the age of 1! So, I'm a sucker for a head full of hair, especially dark hair. Not to mention she has stunning little features as well = )

I should alos mention that "B" made her entrance into the world on the 4th, so she's a firecracker baby!

Have you ever met someone and instantly there was something about that person and you thought, I want to have that quality or be like that. That was the case with Mr. and Mrs. W. Within the first few minutes, I could tell it was going to be a fun session. Then, to top it off she said, "We're hand holders". This is what I want. A bond so strong to be comfortable not only with yourselves, but in front of other people as well. A friendship so deep, you know just what to say to make the other laugh.

M and R - thank you for letting me capture some memories of your 40th anniversary. It was truly my pleasure!

To anybody reading this who has a significant other, let M and R be a source of inspiration. Celebrate the past, the present and the future! This made me want to get some updated picture of me and the hubster. Hmmm, maybe for our 10 yr anniversary next year = )

When a parent tells me their child does not like the camera I usually smile and laugh and say no problem. I'm always up for a good challenge and I've learned a few tricks so I'm usually confident I'll get something. Well, this little guy gave me a good run for my money! I was forewarned but I've photographed him before so I wasn't too worried. We started with his sister, who is 100% at east in front of the camera. I turned and saw D man doing something cute, got focused and was about to snap the shutter and that's about the time he noticed me, screamed "NO" and ran the opposite direction.

With a lot of coaxing... bubbles, playing super hero, hide and seek, etc... AND the help of dad who got his workout throwing D in the air, we got some good ones!

I LOVE being able to capture such tender moments for my clients. The ability to capture a moment of life and create a permanent record of it to be passed down to future generations.

I also want to applaud any woman who has done a maternity session. Often, it's hard enough to be in front of the camera for a regular session. Then, to add the uncomfortableness of being 8-9 months pregnant and the energy it takes just to get out of bed when you can barely move and have hardly slept. Kuddos, ladies!

I know when I look back, I'm glad to have photos, b/c the memories do fade. When I look at the images it brings me back to that time and I know I'll never forget = )

To my dear friend L - I can't wait to meet your 2nd child. I know he or she will be a wonderful addition to your already beautiful family...

This past weekend was the weekend for maternity photo sessions. Here is the first of the 2 sessions.

I got to meet and work with this wonderful mommy-to-be, Ms. M. It was such a nice change of pace to be working with a subject that I didn't have to run after = ) Not to mention M was pretty natural and at ease in front of the camera.

Check out these 2 handsome heartbreakers in the making! Who said boys aren't fun to photograph? I had so much fun with these guys. They love the great outdoors. In fact, as I was photographing the younger one, I noticed he was holding something. Sure enough, it was a rubber fishing lure of some kind = )

The last time I saw all these kiddos was fall of 2007. It's amazing how much they have grown and changed! I've been meaning to ask what family get togethers are like with 6 grandkids. There are 11 of us grandkids on my one side of the family so I remember those days. I'm guessing it's like any other family, a little chaos, some noise and a whole lot of love!

I've been photographing the little man in the striped shirt since he was one! Now he is 3 = ) He always has serious expressions for me. Makes you wonder what they are really thinking? I was also able to catch some smiles, too but there is something about the serious face that just gets me.

I went with individuals of each kid for the sneak peak but we got in some great group shots, too = )

I'm just smitten with this little man. I can't believe he is going to be one year old. I have photographed him since he was a tiny newborn. He is such a delightful boy. Mr. H seems to have a go with the flow attitude and seems very low maintenance.

Are these kids dreamy adorable or what? I'm ah struck right now by these kids' beauty and I'm failing to find the words to describe how amazing they each are! We had smiles, sassiness, cuteness, prettiness, toughness, etc... Bottle all this up and it makes for some great images!!

Finally, the rain is gone. It took 2 reschedules but the 3rd appt was meant to be! A beautiful, overcast evening. I'm hoping spring has officially sprung?

and their very sweet cousin. This session was jam packed fun. The poor boys are recouping from illness but they were troopers. Here they are as newborns. I remember how hard we worked to get a few pictures of them both sleeping. This time, we got LOTS of them together = ) To add even more excitement, mom had arranged for live bunnies to be there!! They were darling and a total hit with the kids.

I'm not going to point fingers as the guilty party already feels pretty bad.

I was so elated when K was disucssing clothing options for her son's 9 month old photo shoot and she pulled out this white shirt and told me the story. It is nearly 40 years old or so and has been worn by dad and his 2 brothers, all at the same age! Now, it is being passed on to the future generations! I can't believe it's in such good condition, no stains, tears, rips, etc... I'm hoping I did the shirt justice!

H is a proficient crawler and gave us a workout! You would not believe how long it took us to get the last piture where he's nakey with the hat. Everytime we would sit him down, he would full throtle crawl some place else. But alas, one split moment was all I needed!

I am looking for a few good high school students to be my senior representatives for the 2009 - 2010 school year. What does this mean you wonder? For starters, you will receive a reduced session fee as well as print credit, some free wallets, and a digital image for facebook, my space, etc... You can choose 2-3 outdoor locations for the session. There will be one mini indoor session - mainly for the yearbook picture. Your job? Share all your gorgeous images with your family and friends.

2008 was a GREAT year and I cannot thank you all enough! All my clients, whether new or returning, have been absolutely fabulous to work with. I get to meet so many wondeful people and even make a few friends along they way. I truly treasure eveyone of you and have enjoyed capturing these moments in your lives.

Change is in the air! There will be new pricing for 2009. I hope to have it posted very soon, here and on my blog. If you have already booked a session in 2009, you will be unaffected by this change.

I have been enjoying this much needed break and spending time with my family. However, it's hard to keep me away from the computer once the kiddos go to bed and I have been working on some new birth announcements for all my expecting moms = )

Baby E wraps up my 2008 year and what a year it's been. Let me tell you how sweet this little guy is ... so content! Whether awake or asleep he was such a good baby! I certainly hope he stays this way. He has the cutest little wrinkles on his forehead - I think you can see them in the image with daddy. Mom says they come from her =0 I also have to comment on how I love getting family pets involved in the action! They are like kids, too, and part of the family. It's important to remember to capture them as well.

This photo shoot was talked about for a long time before it came to fruition. Meet my hair dresser and her 3 gorgeous daughters. As many of us know, it can be difficult to get together for the holidays b/c of distance, jobs, etc... Well, this year, Jacquie managed to get all her daughter's back at the same time so she celebrated the occasion with a photo shoot! I love how laid back and connected they all were. I hope that when my 3 kiddos are grown, we can have this much fun!

Just before the cold winter winds set in, I had a nice afternoon to photograph these 4 brothers in their backyard. I have been shooting a lot of young children lately, which I love, but welcomed the chance to work with some tweens and high school students!

If raising 4 boys isn't already a fulltime job, their mom is also an outstanding violin teacher! I'm not sure if she is taking on more clients, but if you are looking for a violin teacher, she is awesome!

I *puffy* heart these kids! Aren't they just adorable? 2 is such a busy age. They were willing to share all their toys with me... cars, cowboy hats, ball glove, Basil the doll, etc... 2 is such a busy age. C & D - I bet there are days you go to bed exhausted!

Here is another little man I have photographed since birth! Actually, I credit him as being my first "official" client. Now he's almost 2 and going to be a big brother really soon! It was fun to spend some time with Mr. D. He's really into his books and will clearly tell you "yes" or "no" when asked a question = )

Yep, look at this handsome 6 month old. I have photographed him since birth and he is changing so much! Mr. H is a happy little camper and he definitely had some smiles for us.

Christmas Beauties

Do you remember this sweetie? I photographed Miss B this summer...

Well, this time it was her younger sister's turn to shine in front of the camera. Mom was very worried as she has stranger anxiety, very typical for this age. But, we devised a plan and sent mom away (temporarily) and soon we were good friends.

Meet Miss G! She has to-die-for lashes and a beautiful pout. She is also a lover of Elmo.

And, one of Miss B - we would not want anyone to feel left out of the fun. Plus, what was I supposed to do during clothing break time (insert evil laugh here)!

I'm always a little nervous for outdoor shoots in November - you never know what Nebraska weather will bring = ) This past Sunday was a beautiful day - the sun was shining and perfect temperature - we took advantage of all the wonderful colors.

I think this little man is loved, not only by mom and dad but his older cousins adored him as well!

Such a sweet boy! He knows all the animal sounds - I love his gobble, gobble!

Last week I photographed a local preschool. This is my second year doing this and I can't believe how much some of the kiddos have changed! We have a lot of fun. I brought my new backdrop and my new red chair I saved from a dumpster. I'm sure you'll be seeing more of both. I also brought my "treasure chest". The kids had fun climbing in/on it and playing peak! Unfortunately, none of them found gold in it - although a few looked = )

I think fall is officially here in Nebraska. The temperatures are dropping, it has been raining, and western NE is seeing some snow! However, the colors are just stunning this time of year. I had the pleasure of shooting some family pictures for the "S" family. It was a cold, overcast morning but they were troopers! These kiddos are adorable!! I have to say I'm envious of those curls on the girls!!

10 year old twins with a special relationship

Meet Mr. E and Ms. M. I have known these kiddos for 4.5 years or so and have seen them grow-up so much in this time. They are such great kids - pleasant and fun to be around, well mannered, and such great individual personalities. I've hear over and over that twins have a special bond. I think that is truly the case for these two. When we did our first "sibling" shot and they did something similar to below, I asked mom "Is this how they really are?". She said yes.

I had such a fun session. E and M were so natural in front of the camera and I let them take control of the session with their creative ideas.

Here is a together one. This is "all natural" - totally them - no posing at all on my part! I love the way the wind has caught her hair - that's for you, dad = )

This one, I wanted something a little more symbolic - so I told them to look in window.

Now for some relaxed individuals. I tell you, they make it look effortless!

Back in April, I photographed this little handsome man. Here is one of the images from that time, about 8 months or so. (And, he's up above in the blog header).

Now, he's older, walking and back for another session but this time we got the siblings and parents involved too!

Meet K - he's the oldest and already quite the handsome little gentleman.

Meet G - she's second in line and every bit as nice as her brother and beautiful to boot! She has such a nurturing soul and was always around to help with little brother!

Finally, Mr. J. His first session in April, he was under par and not much for smiles. Not this time - look at that grin. He is one of the most content children I have ever met!!

I had to sneak this one in. What is not to love about this mother-daughter relationsship!

This little guy is 100% pure happiness and cuteness! We did a change of clothing and even did a few shots in his diaper and not a whimper! He is very talented as well... he has a darling little growl. I love this age! They're able to sit, crawl, pull-up on objects but not yet able to walk = )

One of the best things about being a photographer is it gives me the opportunity to meet new people...families, kids, newborns, etc. In some instances, I get to reacquaint with people I've not seen for a while or might have known their name or face but not much else. This was the case this last weekend when I met up with Katie and her family. We graduated from a class of 550+. With this many people, you obviously don't know everyone. In fact, there are some you don't know at all. I knew I recognized her face and after shooting for a little bit, it dawned on me.

My poor updated photography blog! I took a break in July to enjoy the summer and be with my family. Now, I'm back in full swing and what better way then a post with newborn twins. Now, I'm sure many of us can relate to trying to get a newborn on a schedule. Even more challenging is getting 2 newborns on a schedule. I had grand plans in mind for these boys but they had different plans = ) When one was awake the other was sleeping and vice versa. But, at last, the boys decided to cooperate! Ernesto and Carmen - thank you for your hospitality, patience, and most of all, sharing your beautiful baby boys with me. Here is a sneak peak until the full gallery is ready.

Hello and welcome! Jill Riese Photo and Design has been created for a couple of reasons.

To allow clients a sneak peak of their images and place to display some of my creations (birth announcements, albums, etc...). It will also keep y'all informed of specials and other useful information!
Since my website is a work in progress, and well, let's face it, I'm not making much progress - you can check things out here.
